Description
SoundWire™ Wave cables are excellent inexpensive entry level power cables for HiFi and AV installations. Higher grade of materials and construction over standard (non-audio specific) power cables. Minimum twice the diameter of the copper cores of entry level cables, made with a far higher grade of copper.
The Wave cable really stands out from the crowd with its Sky-Blue coloured sheath. It is nice and flexible even though it has a 9mm outer diameter. The Sky-Blue silicon outer sheaf is distinctive and practical.
Its rugged construction is highlighted in the 100mm protective heat-shrink covers on both ends of the wire as it terminates into the unique EGM Audio barrel ends. They feature Gold plating over solid Copper pins within an anti resonant 3rd generation AC power plug and is available in a variety of custom lengths and IEC plug tops.
How does it Sound?
The Wave is a great way to start your audio journey, but don’t be fooled by the attractively low price. This is an audio grade cable that uses copper cores that are double the diameter of the freebie giveaway cables that are included in the box. The Wave sounds far smoother and detailed. This cable helps to produce a wider soundstage with space around the instruments and definition in the vocals. The timing is accurate and can relay rhythmic swings in the music, allowing it to work equally well with all genres. The 2 layers of shielding also helps to have quiet black backgrounds.
It doesn’t have the same harmonic richness or transparency of the Spectra, but unless your system is capable of resolving the differences you are simply wasting your money. The bass depth is a little thin by comparison with the others in the range, but this may suit a system where there is too much bass and you would like to trim it down a notch. The sound is honest and it will never exaggerate negative aspects.
The Wave power cable is very good value for money and has the EGM Audio signature sound of being smooth, detailed and slightly warm. The bass is punchy and has decent authority, control and depth. In lower resolution systems there is the feeling of having a thicker and richer bass, although in high-resolution systems this can also be heard as a touch of confusion and muddiness that suggests that you move to a higher grade of cable. In testing the Soundwire range, they all worked equally well with amplifiers and source devices, so they’re quite universal in their abilities.

Why should I use EGM audio grade power cables?
Many people have asked us what the difference between EGM Audio cables and the thin moulded Chinese is made cable included in the box. It’s the sound quality. Technically both do the job, but only a specialised audio cable allows your audio device to sound the way it was meant to. When you stop to compare the quality of the conductors, the wire diameter and extensive use of electromagnetic and radiofrequency shielding, the 3rd generation cable ends, it’s little wonder that EGM audio grade power cables are superior sounding by a large margin. There is a lot of unseen technology incorporated into the finished cable that is not readily apparent. EGM has spent over 7 years of R&D in their new cable range, with extensive listening tests and prototyping so that you can enjoy world-class products at a reasonable price.
EGM is proud that every cable they manufacture uses the same standard of workmanship, the same high grade of materials, including the same protective heat-shrink covers on both ends of the wires and is hand made by a qualified electrician in Australia. Every cable is individually tested for electrical safety. Every cable in the range is shielded against destructive EMI/RFI and is available in custom lengths and with a wide variety of IEC plug tops to suit almost every audio or AV device.
What is Cable Burn-in?
All cables and especially the highly resolving audio grade cables require a little time to settle and start performing at their optimum. There are many opinions as to why this well-known phenomenon happens, but we won't bore you with it. Although they can often sound good immediately, we recommend that you allow EGM cables at least 48 hrs of constant use before doing any critical listening. This initial period will make the largest difference to the sound quality. For the next week or two the cable will continue to improve, but in smaller increments. Often thicker cables with multiple cores take longer than thinner ones.
A fully burned-in cable will sound smoother and more musical. It will also have better timing, imaging, treble detail, bass power and control as well as being less fatiguing to listen to.
Cable Construction
1. Conductors: Three (3) × 2.0 mm² extra-fine stranded Class 5 annealed Oxygen-Free Copper (OFC, 99.9%) conductors, providing excellent flexibility, high conductivity, and long-term reliability.
2. Insulation: Polyethylene (PE) insulation with excellent dielectric properties, significantly lower dielectric losses than standard PVC. Operating temperature range: -10°C to +90°C.
3. Shielding: 100% coverage aluminium/Mylar foil shield for effective high-frequency electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI) suppression.
4. Screening: 99.9% copper braided shield with a minimum 85% braid coverage, providing low-frequency EMI shielding, a low-impedance grounding path, and enhanced mechanical durability.
5. Filler/Binder: Mylar (PET) tape used to maintain cable geometry, secure the cable core, improve mechanical stability, and provide a smooth bedding layer beneath the shielding.
6. Outer Sheath: High-flexibility PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) outer jacket with a 90°C temperature rating, offering excellent flexibility, abrasion resistance, and protection.
